Mekala graduated from University of London with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. She practiced across employment law and taxation law in Sri Lanka.

After migrating to Australia, Mekala completed a Master of Laws at the University of Western Sydney. She was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in September 2025.

Mekala has experience in other areas of personal injury law such as intentional torts and total permanent disability claims. Before joining SMK Lawyers in 2024, she worked in the field of workers compensation representing the interests of workers. Her background allows her to provide well-rounded and commercially informed advice, ensuring clients receive practical solutions.
