Katrina, Associate Director at SMK Lawyers, has more than 13 years of experience in personal injury litigation acting for both the worker and the employers. Prior to commencing at SMK, she practised in insurance litigation and has over the course of her career conducted matters in many jurisdictions, including in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Workers Compensation Commission, District Court of NSW, Supreme Court of NSW, NSW Court of Appeal, Federal Court of Australia and the High Court of Australia.

Katrina has advised in relation to the emerging trend between the increase in psychological injury claims and allegations of bullying and harassment. Her insights and risk assessment advices have impacted on improved client human resources approaches and policy implementation.

Katrina recognises that litigation should always be a last resort but, where necessary, must be handled strategically and commercially. She has been active in a number of precedent-making decisions with significantly beneficial impact at District Court, Supreme Court and appellate levels.

With a particular interest in injury prevention strategies and early claims intervention, Katrina has improved her clients’ risk profile and claims history with strategic and commercial advice and advocacy. She understands the way in which claims, and investigations are handled can be the best protection against bigger issues and liabilities.
